Market maker

A market maker is a broker or dealer firm that presumes the probability of holding a particular number of stocks of a particular security so as to ease the trading of that security. Each market maker competes for customer order flow by displaying buy and sell quotations and the market maker immediately sells out of its own inventory or searches an order, once an order is received from an individual buyer. The Nasdaq may be the prime model of an operation of market makers, given that there are keeping the economic markets running effectively.
